He says:
Abby and I have never really been into extravagant New Year's Resolutions. In fact this year I will be continuing my resolution from last year. Not very original but how many resolutions actually become habits?
A while back I realized that I had a lot of books. Too many books in fact. So many that I hadn't even read some of them. I merely collected them thinking that one day they would be good reads. This spurred me on to make the resolution of reading 52 books in a year. I had never read 52 in a year before, but one book a week didn't seem like much (my mom probably reads that much in a month...). I decided that only books of "substance" would make the list, pretty subjective I know, but I tried not to have much filler.
I ended up reading the 52 books last year so I'm doing it again. This time with the secondary objective of cleaning out my bookcases. I would like to only keep the books that I know I'll read again such as my absolute favorites and books that I'll use for reference. Owning books seems sort of strange when cities have public libraries.
I'm off to a good start so far. I'm powering through some easy reads that have been sitting on my bookshelves, whetting my appetite before I stand tackling some of my big guys, like Stephen King's The Stand. It's going to be a good year for books.
This is such a good idea! I should start working through some of the books I've bought and never gotten around to reading.
