Paying bills sucks. I don't like seeing our hard earned money float away to utility companies every month. Consequently I'm usually looking for a way to mitigate some of our expenses. usually the ideas are far too outlandish for practical use (like not using the AC in the summertime). However, a free digital timer from work gave me an idea.

2 minute showers!
I wasn't brave enough to switch to cold showers right in the middle of winter since our house holds far too low of an ambient temperature for that. But I still wanted to work on my shower habits. Basically all I do is lather up with bar soap and rinse off. Not having hair does have some advantages like no shampooing for instance. The rest of the time was spent standing under hot water doing absolutely nothing.
I knew that my showers could be quicker but I didn't have the willpower to turn off the hot water quickly on my own. Having a digital accountability partner makes this so much easier. No more, "oh, I'll only spend three more minutes in here". Once it beeps I'm done. Not only does this increase my efficiency by about a million percent, but I can also rest easy knowing that the world's water supply is a tiny bit safer. Here's to you, digital timer.
