To Do List

She says:
On Monday Jason and I both had the day off work, so we made ourselves a fun little To Do List to pass the day away.  By "fun little To Do List", I mean absolutely, positively no fun anywhere.  Here are some of the things we did: oil change, fill out the FAFSA, went to the bank, dishes, laundry, worked on our income taxes, and called the insurance company. Gah!

While our To Do List was pretty terrible, we managed to sneak a few redeeming things into our day, so overall it wasn't too bad.  In the morning we made a batch of homemade cookies.  While out around town for the oil change, I ran by Hobby Lobby and grabbed some adorable fabric (on CLEARANCE!) for a skirt.  We took a walk in the beautiful sunshine to the library.  And we watched a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother while eating dinner.

Overall, it was a good day, coming off an awesome weekend.  On Saturday, we went to Jason's godmother's wedding in Parkville, MO.  Before the wedding we got all dressed up, went to an estate sale (nothing too good to pass up), and then met with Jason's family for lunch at Stone Canyon Pizza.  Only one person got the pizza (me!).  Then we went to a beautiful wedding ceremony, followed by a reception IN A CAVE!  Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of any of this.  I remembered to take my camera, but left my SD card in the computer.  But when you picture it in your mind, know that we were adorable, the ceremony was beautiful, and the cave was awesome!

In visiting with Jason's extended family at the reception, we found out that his cousin's band, The Sunflower Colonels, were playing at a local pub later that night.  Since we didn't have any other exciting plans, we went down to the show.  It was amazing.  We got to visit with his cousin and meet the band, enjoy some kickin' bluegrass music, and some drunk girl followed Jason's uncle around because she thought he was Larry David.  Ha!

The Sunflower Colonels!  Jason's cousin is on the right, with the banjo.  Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of his uncle, who does kind of resemble Larry David!
On Sunday we stayed super late at church to listen to the "Healthy Church Initiative" proposal.  The Good Shepherd has entered into this program where we basically had a leadership team come in and interview church members, community members and "mystery worshipers" about our church.  The church got a report of its strengths and weaknesses, and then the leadership team gave us "prescriptions" of things to do to help improve/grow our church.  As members of the church we get to vote on whether we do these things or not.  I am so excited about it all.  If we vote for the "prescriptions" we will have all of these changes taking place over the next year and a half.  Some of them seem like no big deal: change the volume level at worship, put an accessible door in the rear of the building, focus on outreach/in the community programs. Some things are a lot bigger: renovations in the sanctuary, restructuring of the entire staff at the church, no individual event fundraisers. I'm excited for it all, big and small. But we're still pretty new to the church and just getting involved in things.  I can see where people who had been involved for 19 years (and helped start the church in the first place!) might have a harder time being open to so many changes.  Bob Farr, the leader of the whole thing, put the question to us: "God IS going to move.  The question is, are you going to let Him move through you?"  As a church, we won't vote on this until the end of March, so there's lots of time to think and pray about it.  Did I mention how excited I am about this?!
In the afternoon, we headed downtown to Urban Mining Homewares, which is only open on First Fridays weekends.  We've found some pretty neat (and cheap!) things there in the past: a handmade ceramic tea set, our glass "beehive" water pitcher.  And this time we came away with a baguette pan!  Making baguettes in it is still on our To Do List!

When we blogged about the Urban Miners place before, we didn't have any pictures.  So, following our sad, sad lacking of pictures from Saturday, we took a couple to show off the place (but mostly just us playing around):

Look at all that stuff!  Our baguette pan is on the floor to the left, and there's some antique corn dishware hiding in there too!

Umm...coolest light ever.

  1. Great post! I wish you had gotten some pictures of Larry David... I mean Jason's uncle.
