Happy St. Patrick's Day!

She says:
Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone!  Jason and I didn't have any exciting plans for the day, but with all of our unplanned free time, we ended up doing some pretty exciting things.

I was supposed to be working at church until noon, but no children ever showed up!  So I got back home a little after 10:00 and Jason and I headed down to the City Market.  We ended up splurging on produce--$1 for a pound of strawberries, $1 for four summer squash (or "swash"), $1 for 20 sweet peppers.  Ha!  Not only did we find some good deals, but the weather was awesome!  It was the first day this year that I've worn shorts and it was overcast enough that Jason won't be sunburned tomorrow!

Jason carefully choosing his 20 favorite peppers.

What the heck is swash?  I don't know, but we bought four of them!

Since we were already downtown we decided to head down to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.  On the way there we ran into the St. Patrick's Day parade craziness.  There were cars "parked" that looked like they just drove off the side of the road and figured whatever embankment was there was good enough.  Then more cars pulled in behind them.  Then more just parked on the shoulder.  Then some pulled into that triangle space created when an exit ramp is leaving or rejoining the main road.  What?

After all of the trafic nonsense, there was, unfortunately, only one new (to us) exhibit at the Kemper.  Fortunately, we got to see the interesting taxedermied pheasant and peacock tree installation by Petah Coyne again.  Ha!

This tree is crazy nonsense.

After taking the long route home (to avoid the parade/crazy parkers) and eating some lunch, we got busy on some projects around the house.  Jason started a batch of saurkraut and I started affixing four-leaf clovers (pressed from last summer) onto glass beads for various uses, like magnets (similar to the ones at our wedding) and pendants.  Then we made a kite!  My Christmas present from Jason was all of the supplies to make our own kites, and today was the first day I got to use it!  We headed to the park near our house, kite it tow, and proceeded to fail at getting it to fly. :(  Oh well...

"Flying" our homemade kite.

While we were there, I thought we should look for a 4-leaf clover so that we could put up an awesome St. Patrick's themed picture.  We also failed at finding a 4-leaf clover.  :( Oh well... Instead we found a 5-leaf clover!  Awesome!

Five leaves!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!
